A GOLD-DAMASCENED WATERED-STEEL SWORD ( TULWAR ) ASCRIBED TO ASSADULLAH, NORTH INDIA, 19TH OR EARLY 20TH CENTURY The curved single-edged blade broadening towards the point, gold-damascened all over with a cusped calligraphic medallion in loose nasta'liq script between elegant meandering floral tendrils arranged in complicated cartouches, the forte with a floral spray within a cusped cartouche, the hilt inset with red hardstones or glass beads, the square with central floral bloom issuing palmettes towards the quillons, the grip and pommel with further similar damascened decoration, with red velvet sheath with gold-damascened mounts with floral motifs 31 ½in. (80cm.) long
