A GLASS 'LOTUS FLOWER' NECKLACE, BY RENÉ LALIQUE The carved clear glass floral pendants with gold link spacers, circa 1925, 45.0 cm long, with blue velvet case Signed R. Lalique Cf. V. Becker, The Jewellery of René Lalique Goldsmiths' Company Exhibition, London 1987, p.18 Sold 16 November 2004 in the sale 'Jewels of Aviva' as lot 93 Following the phenomenal success of his Art Nouveau enamel jewels, Lalique turned his attention to glassmaking around 1910 when he bought the glassworks at Combs-La-Ville. Lalique was able to explore the decorative possibilities offered by glass, its plasticity, translucency, colours and texture. Continuing the themes taken from the Art Nouveau jewellery, his best examples were the fringe necklaces in clear or frosted glass, as illustrated by this lot (ref. V.
