A GERMAN HUNTING TROUSSE (WAIDPRAXE), the cleaver with heavy broad single-edged blade struck with a mark, the hilt of iron cast in one piece, comprising short quillons, the forward one ending in an eagle-head, small circular shell-guard cast in low relief with huntsmen and animals of the chase, tapering grip with two recessed panels inlaid with ebony and ivory (two pieces of ebony missing), and eagle-head pommel: in original shagreen-covered wooden scabbard encased in sheet iron, pierced and engraved with scenes and animals of the chase, and involving side pockets for five implements (all missing) engraved 'I. Gottlieb Richter', acorn-shaped finial, and two rear suspension staples, second half of the 18th Century 19½in.
