A GEORGE IV GOLD FREEDOM-BOX MARK OF JOHN LINNET, LONDON, 1826 Rectangular box with rounded corners, the sides and base engine-turned with a coin-pattern, the sablé gold cover centred with an applied coat-of-arms between animal supporters, with vari-colour gold floral-sprays of roses and thistles at each corner, within an oak-leaf raised border, with applied shell and foliate thumbpiece, the interior cover engraved with an inscription which reads, 'PRESENTED with the Honorary Freedom of the City, BY THE MAYOR AND CORPORATION OF BATH TO THE Right Honourable George Canning, HIS MAJESTY'S PRINCIPAL SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS, as a mark of the high sense entertained by them OF HIS TRANSCENDENT TALENTS and eminent public Services, 22nd Jan. 1827. 3½ in. (93 mm.) wide 7 oz. (216 gr.) The arms are those of the City of Bath.
