A GEORGE III SMALL BRASS-MOUNTED EBONISED STRIKING TABLE CLOCK WILLIAM ALLAM, LONDON. CIRCA 1780 CASE: brass handle to the bell top, brass-lined glazed side panels, conforming brass-lined front door with pierced and engraved quarter frets, on brass bracket feet DIAL: 4¾ in. wide brass dial with scroll and foliate spandrels to silvered chapter ring, date square and false pendulum aperture to matted centre, subsidiaries to arch for strike/silent and pendulum regulation, signed on a cartouche above 'William Allam/London' (dial plate and spandrels regilt), blued steel hands (minute replaced) MOVEMENT: secured to case by bolts to underside and engraved brackets (possibly later), twin line fusees, verge escapement, rack strike with trip repeat on bell, scrolling foliate engraved back plate with scored line border and signed 'Willm. Allam/LONDON' 13¾ in. (35 cm.) high, handle down; 8½ in. (21.5 cm.) wide; 6½ in. (16.5 cm.) deep
