ALLAM AND CLEMENTS, LONDON. CIRCA 1770
A George III small brass-mounted ebonised striking eight day table clock Allam and Clements, London. Circa 1770 The case with brass moulding and brass handle to the bell top, with brass-lined pierced and engraved sound frets to the sides, brass mouldings to all angles and brass sound frets to the brass-lined front and rear doors, brass moulding to the stepped base raised on brass bracket feet, the 5 in. wide brass dial with foliate spandrels to the engraved and silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, matted centre with date square, signed on the shallow silvered arch Allam & Clements/London , flanked by strike/silent and regulation subsidiary rings, blued steel hands, the twin gut fusees movement with five ring turned pillars and restored verge escapement, rack strike on later bell, the back plate with latched holdfast and engraved with foliate scrolls and a floral basket; pendulum, winding key, case key See p.118 for movement detail 12 in. (30.5 cm.) high, handle down The partnership of Allam and Clements is recorded 1764-1795. A table clock by the partners of related design was sold at Christie's London, Important Clocks and Marine Chronometers , 6 December 2006, lot 99.
