A GEORGE III PADOUK, SATINWOOD AND MARQUETRY BONHEUR-DU-JOUR attributed to Mayhew & Ince with three-quarter brass-galleried rectangular superstructure above a pair of tambour shutters inlaid with waved berried foliage and enclosing a mahogany-lined interior, flanked by a pair of hinged doors inlaid with a flaming athenienne with goat-mask monopodia supports suspending husk garlands, each enclosing four mahogany-lined graduated drawers, the sides inlaid with a ribbon-tied floral patera with husk garland, the lower section with moulded top above a writing-slide with inset green baize and adjustable reading-slope, the shaped apron centred by a ribbon-tied- husk medallion, Pallas Athene torn between wisdom and a bacchanalian ewer, flanked by a pair of spirally-fluted amphorae, the sides each with one shallow and one deep mahogany-lined drawer inlaid with a central husk-garlanded floral patera above a ribbon-tied palms, on square tapering cabriole legs, the brass gallery replaced, minor restorations 27in.(68.5cm.) wide; 39in.(99cm.) high; 19in.(48cm.) deep
