A GEORGE III MAHOGANY 'COCKPEN' ARMCHAIR POSSIBLY SCOTTISH, CIRCA 1800 With Chinese Chippendale style back 86cm high A closely related chair was held in the Norman Adams Collection, see Christopher Claxton Stevens and Stewart Whittington, 18th Century English Furniture: The Norman Adams Collection, Antique Collectors' Club, 1983, page 57. Condition Report: Marks, scratches, chips, splits and abrasions consistent with age and use Some repairs including the H stretcher probably later; joints including where the arms join the back and where legs and arm supports meet the seat rail; we have not inspected the frame beneath the upholstery and therefore can't comment on the condition and originality but there appears to be later timber to the front seat rail visible. Crack and repair to the moulding across the back of the seat; crack and repair but still loose to area of lattice back; crack and repair to top of one front leg. Upholstery with marks.
