A George III Irish mahogany longcase clock The hood with rosette-carved caps to swan neck cresting, blind fret frieze to arch, with glazed side panels and inset stop-fluted coluns with carved Corinthian capitals, the trunk with breakarch door with chamfered border, on plinth with conforming raised panel, the 13¼in. wide cut-away gilt-brass dial with mask and foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring signed Alex Gordon/DUBLIN , matted centre with silvered subsidiary seconds ring (lacking hand), later hands, circular date aperture (now covered and lacking ring), applied with an arch painted with ships and centred by an aperture with further painted rocking ship, the eight day four pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell; the arch probably later applied, case associated to dial and movement, circa 1770 -- 95¼in. (241.5cm.) high
