A George III hardstone fob seal, early 19th century the oval cornelian panel carved with the arms of the BONHAM family, panel 3.1cm long, with a pierced fluted gold setting, 4.3cm high, 16.7g gross These are the arms of the BONHAM family of Orsett House, Essex. The inclusion of a cadency mark: a mullet representing the third son leads us to believe that the owner the arms would have been Henry BONHAM (1777-1830) of Titness Park, Berkshire and 49 Portland Place, Middlesex, who in 1802 married Charlotte Elizabeth MORRICE (1780-1878). He was MP for Leominster (1806-1812), Sandwich (1824-1826), Rye (1826-1830). Condition Report: There is some wear commensurate with age and use, some nibbling to the outside of the shield These are the arms of the BONHAM family of Orsett House, Essex. The line of descent of that family are: Cpt. Samuel BONHAM (1676-1745) RN who married firstly in 1703 Sarah DEWEY (1682-1794) and secondly Jane PINSON (1690-1771). His only son by his second marriage was Samuel BONHAM (1738-1821) of Great Warley Place Orsett who in 1759 married Sarah RICHARDSON (1738-1807) and it is his third son who was Henry BONHAM (1777-1830) of Titness Park.
