A GEORGE III GOLD-MOUNTED HARDSTONE NÉCESSAIRE WITH GILT-METAL CLASP English, circa 1760/1770 Tapering flattened rectangular bloodstone case with wavy domed top and base, pierced gold cagework mounts stamped with reeded scrolls, foliage and birds, hinge at the short end, diamond-set pushpiece, the inside fitted with steel scissors with gold handles, two-leaved tablets, a gold folding knife with silver blade, a gold ear-spoon, steel tweezers with nail file handle, a pencil with silver-topped gold cap; suspended from the base of a hinged gilt-metal clasp inset with cartouche-shaped bloodstone panels and hung with two bloodstone breloques mounted with scrolling pierced gold cagework enamelled with white motto bands, the ball-shaped one inscribed L'AMITIE EN FAIT LE PRIX , the egg-shaped one inscribed L'AMOUR TROUVE MOYEN 71/8 in.
