A George III gilt-brass mounted mahogany quarter striking eight day longcase clock Edward Wickstead, London. Circa 1770 The pagoda top hood surmounted by gilt-brass bust finials, silk-backed blind fret work above brass stop-fluted pillars with gilt-brass Corinthian capitals flanking the brass-lined door, brass-lined glazed rectangular side panels, gilt-brass capitals to the rear quarter columns, the trunk with brass stop-fluted quarter columns with gilt-brass Corinthian capitals (one lacking) flanking the moulded frame door, raised moulded panel to the base, later skirt raised on later bracket feet, the 12 in. wide brass dial with foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, silvered subsidiary seconds and date square to the matted centre with applied arched silvered plaque signed Edward Wickstead London , strike/silent to the arch, blued steel hands, the substantial movement with six ring-turned pillars, anchor escapement, chiming the quarters on a nest of six bells and the hours on further bell; pendulum, three brass-cased weights, winding key 104 in. (264 cm.) high
