A GEORGE II SILVER-GILT INVERTED BELL-SHAPED CUP AND COVER, the spreading circular foot cast and chased with a band of shells, rosettes and husks on a matted ground, the body applied with a moulded band and with leaf-capped double scroll handles, the domed cover with baluster finial, the body and cover applied with strapwork incorporating masks foliate scrolls and classical portrait bust within laurel wreath cartouches, later applied with a drapery cartouche enclosing a crest, the cover, later engraved with an inscription, by John Tuite, 1730, the cover with maker's mark struck twice only 12¼in. (31.5cm.) high (83ozs.) THE INSCRIPTION READS 'PRESENTED TO JOHN NASH ESQR BY LADY GREY EGERTON, IN TESTIMONY OF THE SINCERE ESTEEMAND REGARD OF HIS DEPARTED FRIEND SIR JOHN GREY EGERTON BARTT 1825.
