A GEORGE I SCARLET AND GILT-JAPANNED BUREAU CABINET THE DECORATION BY DANIEL MASSEY, POSSIBLY FROM THE WORKSHOP OF JOHN BELCHIER CIRCA 1720 Decorated overall with Chinese figures, animals and landscapes highlighted in silver, the later mirrored doors with large-scale figures on a nishiji ground to the reverse, enclosing an arrangement of doors, drawers and pigeonholes, the lower section with a fall front with leather-lined writing slide and further drawers and pigeonholes, above two short and two long drawers, one drawer inscribed twice in ink DM , another DM in red, inscribed glass to the reverse, red numerals to the drawers, the decoration largely original but distressed 91 in. (231 cm.) high, 40½ in. (103 cm.) wide, 23 in. (58.5 cm.) deep
