A French brass grande sonnerie striking carriage clock with push-button repeat Henri Jacot, Paris, late 19th century The eight-day two train movement with silvered platform lever escapement and striking the full hour followed by ting-tang notation for the quarters on a pair of graduated gongs every quarter-hour, the backplate with stamped HJ trademark for Henri Jacot above PARIS and number 8725 to lower left hand corner, the rectangular white enamel Roman numeral dial with Arabic five minutes to outer track and blued steel spade hands set within canted brass bezel, the corniche type bevel glazed case with hinged carrying handle and Full Striking/Silent/Quarters selection lever to underside, 16cm (6.25ins) high excluding handle. Henri Jacot is recorded in Allix, Charles CARRIAGE CLOCKS Their history and development as working from 31 Rue de Montmorency, Paris. The firm first exhibited at the 1855 Paris Exposition and were awarded numerous medals for entries submitted to various international exhibitions throughout the second half of the 19th century, including a gold medal at the1900 Paris 'Exhibition Universelle'. Allix notes that they also were said to have a factory at Saint-Nicholas-d'Aliermont and finally ceased operations in about 1920.
