A finely detailed early 19th Century French prisoner of war bone model of a 48-gun frigate --5¾ x 7¾in (14.5 x 19.7cm) With bound masts, spars, standing and running rigging, carved female figurehead, anchors, catheads, capstan, gratings, decklights, upper deck guns, two ship's boats, the hull with painted strake and transon detailing (some restoration by The National Maritime Museum) , wood plinth and glazed case (later) . Provenance: First noted in present owner's family archive in 1834 and thence by descent. Exhibited: H.M. Miller, Lord Mayor of Liverpool Collection, Marine Department, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (c.1930-39); Lloyds of London (c.1950-68); The National Maritime Museum (c.1970-75).
