A finely carved archaistic rhinoceros horn libation cup with boxwood stand Qing dynasty, Kangxi period the cup of deep reddish brown horn, finely shaped into an almost symmetrically tapering cup of oval section curving with a subtle step before the flared pedestal foot, finely carved with a wide band of two large archaistic taotie masks with elaborately scrolled edges and hooked teeth against dense leiwen keyfret, between further keyfret borders at the rims of mouth and foot, set on one side with an exquisite openwork handle formed from the entwined sinuous bodies of three qilong dragons, the major one reaching up to firmly bite the rim and hold it with both front claws, the circular high boxwood stand pierced with an elaborate reticulated apron of feathery scrolls, set on four slender legs with cloud-form feet secured by a reticulated foot-stretcher of linked fretwork Cup 5 7/8 in., 14.8 cm wide Stand 4 1/8 in., 10.5 cm high
