A fine Victorian mahogany bowfronted mercury stick barometer Henry Frodsham, Liverpool, mid 19th century With convex moulded surmount and cavetto cornice over silvered Vernier scale calibrated in barometric inches and annotated with the usual observations beneath signature H. Frodsham, Liverpool opposing mercury tube Fahrenheit scale mercury thermometer, behind bowed glass within moulded surround above trunk with the same bowed profile incorporating vernier setting screw to throat, the base with turned ebonised half vase cistern cover flanked by canted angles over cavetto moulded underside incorporating level adjustment screw, 97cm (38ins approx.) high. Provenance: Christie's, King Street, London IMPORTANT CLOCKS AND SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS, 11th July 2003, (lot 125). Henry Frodsham is recorded in Clifton, Gloria Directory of British Scientific Instrument Makers 1550-1851 as working from several addresses in Castle Street, Liverpool 1835-56.
