London Gazette 7 January 1949: ‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Palestine during the period 27th September, 1947 - 26th March, 1948.’ Hector John Finlay Munro was born in August 1898, and served during the Great War with the Royal Engineers in the Mesopotamian theatre of war, 12 December 1917 - 31 October 1918. He served in the ranks for 14 years and 84 days, nearly eight years of which were as Warrant Officer Class I. Munro was commissioned Lieutenant (Quarter Master) in November 1938. He advanced to Major (Quarter Master) in June 1947, and to Lieutenant-Colonel (Quarter Master) in December 1950. Munro retired in October 1954.
