A fine Military Division O.B.E. and campaign medal combination group of nine awarded Lieutenant-Colonel (Quarter Master) H. J. F. Munro, Royal Engineers, who served for nearly eight years as Warrant Officer Class I, and was M.I.D. for operations in post-war Palestine The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) Officer’s 2nd type breast badge, silver-gilt; British War and Victory Medals (25145 Spr. H. J. F. Munro. R.E.); Defence and War Medals 1939-45; General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Palestine 1945-48, M.I.D. Oak Leaf (Major H. J. F. Munro. R.E.); Coronation 1953; Army L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 3rd issue, Regular Army (1852852 W.O. Cl. II. H. J. F. Munro. R.E.); Meritorious Service Medal, G.VI.R., 3rd issue (1852852 W.O. Cl. 1. H. J. F. Munro. R.E.) mounted court-style as originally worn, with riband bars and recipient’s Calling Card, toned, generally good very fine (9) £460-£500 Footnote O.B.E. London Gazette 7 June 1951. M.I.D. London Gazette 7 January 1949: ‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Palestine during the period 27th September, 1947 - 26th March, 1948.’ Hector John Finlay Munro was born in August 1898, and served during the Great War with the Royal Engineers in the Mesopotamian theatre of war, 12 December 1917 - 31 October 1918. He served in the ranks for 14 years and 84 days, nearly eight years of which were as Warrant Officer Class I. Munro was commissioned Lieutenant (Quarter Master) in November 1938. He advanced to Major (Quarter Master) in June 1947, and to Lieutenant-Colonel (Quarter Master) in December 1950. Munro retired in October 1954.
