A FINE LOUIS XVI VARI-COLOUR GOLD AND GLASS PRESENTATION BONBONNIERE SET WITH A MINIATURE by Pierre-Charles Mané (fl. 1777-1793), marked, Paris, 1784/1785, with the second charge and discharge marks of Henry Clavel 1782-1789, the miniature by Jean-Baptiste Joseph Le Tellier (1759 - after 1812), later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold Circular foiled light blue opaline glass and gold box, the independent cover centred by a glazed oval miniature depicting the Duc de Brissac (1734-1792), wearing armour bordered with red frills, a red cloak over his right shoulder, decorated with the blue moiré silk sash and the silver breast-star of the Royal French Order of the Holy Ghost, white stock and frilled lace cravat, powdered wig and black wig-bag, within a reeded gold mount, the opaline glass painted sous verre with blue foliage on an engine-turned oyster-pink opalescent foil radiating sunburst ground, the four side panels similarly decorated with romantic landscapes against sunset grounds, the base with a hunting party on a radiating sunburst ground, the matted gold mounts adorned with husks interspersed with roses and stylized flowerheads chased in two-colour gold, the original hinged green shagreen case lined with velvet and silk 2 13/16 in. (72 mm.) diam. (2)
