BVLGARI
SERPENTI, REF. BB 19 1T, CIRCA 1995 Quartz movement, black circular dial, Arabic and baton numerals, polished yellow gold bezel, gold coiled spring 'tubogas' band, case, dial and movement signed Diameter 19mm The Serpenti is one of Bulgari's most uniquely recognizable designs that was first introduced in the 1940s. The earliest confirmed Serpenti bracelet design was inspired by the “gas pipe” design and was made in the Machine Style of the late 1940s. The watch case was generally rectangular or square-shaped. Subsequently, the serpent Tubogas versions explored every possible shapes of case and dial - round, square, octagonal, pear. In the 1960s serpents began to appear with a more realistic interpretation where numerous separate elements simulated the reptile’s scales while the watch case was concealed in the reptile’s head. The body was either in gold or in polychrome enamel and gold, with state-of-the art goldsmith techniques. Elizabeth Taylor lavishly sported one in the movie Cleopatra and 'Bvlgari' was the first Italian word she learned."
