(A) FINE ENGLISH REVOLUTIONARY WAR OFFICER'S PISTOL BY PAGE & CHRISTIAN.

Officers on both sides carried British officer's pistols like this example during the Revolutionary War. This circa 1770-1780 pistol has a swamped round barrel with teardrop-shaped cartouche around "NORWICH" engraved on top, left side of breech marked with private view and proof marks and "TP" for Thomas Page Beveled lockplate with convex face engraved with scrolls and "PAGE & CHRISTIAN" in the center. Features a detached pan. Brass furniture in the classic Georgian style includes a pierced sideplate chased and engraved featuring military motifs, a castle and artillery. Full stirrup pommel cap with grotesque mask in center. Early mult-ringed ramrod ferrules. Ornate wrist escutcheon with helmet, cannons, and flags. Trigger guard terminates in an acorn finial with fine engraved details. Walnut stock of Georgian form with a relief carved shell design surrounding the barrel tang. There are also relief panels terminating in teardrops around the lock and sideplate. Complete with its original horn-tipped wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a light grey patina, markings crisp and excellent. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and functions well. Markings excellent and retains a pleasing light grey patina. Brass shows no wear and retains a pleasing mustard patina. Stock very good with a couple scattered minor storage marks, one hairline 1 - 1/8" crack on bottom, beneath front of lockplate. A very fine military officer's pistol in wonderful condition.
