A FINE CASED PAIR OF BELGIAN 40-BORE PERCUSSION TARGET DUELLING PISTOLS SIGNED DUGUET À MONTARGIS, SERIAL NO. 5440, CIRCA 1855 With fine etched twist octagonal sighted rifled barrels, case-hardened border and scroll engraved recessed patent breeches and tangs each respectively numbered '1' and '2', the tangs each incorporating the standing rear-sight, signed border and scroll engraved case-hardened detented locks, set triggers, well figured walnut half-stocks each carved with foliage on the fore-end and with fluted butt, border and scroll engraved case-hardened mounts including spurred trigger-guards, and much original finish throughout, Liège proof, in original close-fitted brass-corned mahogany case lined in dark green velvet with accessories, mostly original, including bullet-mould, lead-ladle, embossed pistol-flask, and loading-mallet, the exterior with large shaped brass escutcheon incorporating the flush-fitting brass carrying-handle 9 7/8in. (25cm.) barrels
