A Fine Cased Pair Of 25-Bore Flintlock Duelling Pistols By H.W. Mortimer, Gunmaker to his Majesty, London, circa 1790-1800 With swamped rebrowned twist octagonal sighted barrels signed in full on the top flat, gold-lined vents, engraved case-hardened tangs each incorporating the back-sight, signed case-hardened bevelled locks each with safety-catch and stepped tail, figured walnut full stocks, chequered butts each with radially fluted pommel, engraved blued iron mounts including spur trigger-guards, set triggers, original horn-tipped ramrods, one with worm, and much original finish: in original lined and fitted mahogany case with accessories, the lid with trade label and flush-fitting brass carrying handle, London proof marks 15½in. (39.4cm.) The trade label is of the early type illustrated and described in H. Lee Munson, The Mortimer Gunmakers 1753-1923 , p. 274, plate 449
