A FINE AND VERY RARE LARGE IMPERIAL FAMILLE ROSE CARVED 'EUROPEAN-SUBJECT' PORCELAIN PLAQUE QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) Of rectangular form, superbly carved in high relief with a procession of 'foreigners' in a rocky seashore landscape, centred around three foreigners standing by tall pine trees on a causeway beside two attendants respectively seated atop an elephant and a Buddhist lion, four attendants bearing gifts descending from a steep flight of steps by a waterfall amidst tall craggy rocks, with further merchants and attendants progressing through the causeway from an embankment opposite, all converging towards a ship anchored in the foreground and partly concealed behind a large rock with its brightly patterned flags hung from masts emerging from behind the trees, another ship anchored further from the shore amidst dense undulating waves, with pink and yellow paulownia and dense green trees accentuating the landscape and with mountains rising in the distance below a blue sky streaked with clouds, all painted in brilliant famille rose enamels with a minute detailing of the faces, flags, clusters of pines, leaves and rocks carefully executed in pencilled lines, mounted in a carved hardwood wooden frame 33 3/8 x 18 7/8 in.
