A fine and rare Victorian nickel-cased eight day timepiece chronometer carriage clock with prismatic balance Frederick Dent, 61 Strand & 54 Royal Exchange, London, No.1392. Circa 1853/1856 CASE: of slender proportions, with bevelled side and rear glasses and with fully recessing polygonal handle above a bevelled top glass, the rear glass with two shuttered holes for hand-set and wind, the rear door itself released by using the winding key on a lock in the base, numbered 1392 to the underside DIAL: with silvered electroform foliate mask to white enamel Roman chapter disc, a subsidiary seconds ring bisecting XII, signed below F.DENT/61 STRAND &/54 ROYAL EXCHANGE/LONDON/1392 , with blued steel spade hands MOVEMENT: with rectangular 'snailed' plates joined by four pillars secured with blued steel screws to the front, single chain fusee, maintaining power, with high quality gilt platform to Earnshaw-type spring detent chronometer escapement with Dent's free-sprung 'Type B' cut bimetallic prismatic balance with cylindrical temperature compensation weights and blued steel helical balance spring with diamond endstone, signed on the back plate F.Dent/LONDON/1392 and secured to the base of the case with two 'snailed' brackets; with original nickel numbered key of unusual design 6 9/16 in. (16.6 cm.) high, handle recessed
