A FINE 37-BORE D.B. PIN-FIRE SPORTING RIFLE, OWNED BY SIR EDWIN LANDSEER BY J. PURDEY, 314½ OXFORD STREET, LONDON, NO. 6254 FOR 1863 With rebrowned damascus twist barrels leaf-sighted to 200 yards and signed on the rib, and cut with six shallow grooves, long case-hardened scroll-engraved top-strap, signed scroll engraved case-hardened detented back-action locks each with blued safety-catch, scroll engraved case-hardened sliding breech action and lever of Bastin Le Page type, figured walnut butt, chequered grip, cheek-piece, scroll engraved blued iron mounts including trigger-guard with chequered spur and chequered butt-plate engraved 'Charge 2½ drms No. 6 Powder', and much original finish: in original lined and fitted numbered oak case with accessories including numbered bullet mould and numerous cartridge cases, and hand-written directions for use of the action, the lid with trade label inscribed with owner's name, and with flush-fitting carrying handle, London proof marks 28in. barrels
