Original blue quarter cloth and marbled boards with gilt spine title. Condition: endleaves with spotting and offsetting; covers with some spotting. christmas day presentation copy of the signed limited first edition to harold monro, founder of poetry review. Number 61 of 580 signed copies, additionally inscribed on the title page “For Harold Monro / from his friend / T.S. Eliot / 25.xii.28”. Monro's Poetry Bookshop was located just steps from Faber & Gwyer where Eliot was hired as an editor in 1926. Eliot's later books could always be found at Monro's shop and he was a regular reader there as well. Monro was also a publisher and poet himself, and had in fact rejected The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock for inclusion in an anthology in 1915. Monro died in 1932 and Eliot added a "critical note" to his Collected Poems in 1935. Gallup B11.
