Late 18th and Late 19th century The first group of framed medallions each impressed WEDGWOOD, the top row of 18th century jasper comprising ‘Marriage of Cupid and Psyche’, after the Marlborough Gem, in blue dip, (back not examined as affixed to velvet); ‘Hygeia Sacrificing’, attributed to Hackwood and Flaxman, in blue dip with blue back, painted number 5372, height 1 3/8in (3.5cm); ‘Coriolanus’ with his wife and mother entreating him to return to Rome, after Flaxman, in blue dip with blue back, numbered 4970, length 2¼in (6cm); ‘Sacrifice to Hymen’ after Flaxman, in solid blue, indistinctly numbered 4(?)84, height 1¼in (3.25cm) and ‘Three Graces’ after Flaxman, in blue dip, incised 4, numbered 5387, height 2¼in (6cm). The lower row of late 19th century jasper, comprising ‘Marriage of Cupid and Psyche’ in charcoal gray dip, length 2in (5cm); ‘Hygeia Sacrificing’ in solid light blue, height 1½in (4cm); ‘Coriolanus with his wife and mother’ in solid light blue within gilt metal frame, diameter 1½in (3.5cm); ‘Sacrifice to Hymen’ with Cupid in solid light blue, diameter 1½in (4cm) and the ‘Three Graces’ in charcoal gray dip, height 2in (5cm) all within glazed shadow box frame, dimensions 9 1/2im x 15in (24cm x 38cm). With card affixed to reverse of frame by antiques dealer Fredrick Rathbone with hand-scripted titles of medallions and their dates of manufacture The five medallions at top are all Old Wedgwood of the best period and quality made between 1787 and 1793. The lower series of five medallions are modern Wedgwood reproductions of the same subjects made between 1880 and 1890., also stamped R. Rathbone, 20 Alfred Place West, South Kensington, London, S.W. The second framed group of two medallions in polychrome jasper depicting Zeus on the left in blue and yellow, diameter 7/8in (2.5cm), and Cupid with a lamb beside a column on the right in pale green and lilac, diameter ¾in (2cm), hand-scripted by Rathbone on two paper labels affixed to the reverse of frame, Old Wedgwood 1792 (left) and Modern Wedgwood 1887 (right), with same Rathbone stamp as on first group, all within oval ebonized frame, dimensions 3¼in x 4in (8cm x 10cm).
