A collection of three illuminated manuscripts, in Italian and Latin, on vellum 3 volumes, (a) Office for the reception of novices into a Dominican convent, in Latin, with the Order of the Penance of St. Dominic, in Italian, 10 leaves, 179mm. by 125mm., written space 120mm. by 80mm., in black ink in two bookhands (that of second text with occasional flaking), rubrics and small initials in red throughout, with numerous 1-line initials in liquid gold on blue grounds in first text and simple 2-line red initials in second, good condition, modern binding of brown leather over pasteboards, Italy, second half of fifteenth century; (b) Diploma of the University of Padua granting the degree of Doctor of Law to Alexander Vicelli of Venice, 4 leaves bound as booklet, 235mm. by 170mm., 38 lines in black ink with names and witnesses picked out in liquid gold (now green in some places), all within elaborate penwork frame of foliage touched in green and red, with frontispiece with parrots and cabochons enclosing Christ, the Virgin, Joseph and St. Bonaventura surrounding text, and facing a delicate portrait of the owner enclosed with a blue wreath set on a background of foliage and putti, at end the owner's arms suspended by putti and lions, both frontispiece and last leaf signed by the scribe-artist Leonardus Diamantinus (one of three artist brothers who worked at Fossombrone, near Urbino; the Italian National Biography calls Leonard Diamantini, "uno stimato calligrafo, miniaturista e maestro di ballo"), in nineteenth-century cloth binding, witnessed at Padua by Petrus de Fabris, vice-chancellor of the bishopric 3 September 1676; (c) Diploma of the University of Padua granting the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and Medicine on Jacobus Antonius Bontadi, 4 leaves (last blank), 240mm. by 175mm., 45 lines in black ink with initials and names picked out in liquid gold, all within elaborate floral borders in gold, blue and pink, first leaf with arms and crest of owner within similar border, signed by the scribe-artist Rocchus Maria Castelli Scr:tor, et Min:tor Dep:tus at foot of last leaf, in excellent condition, splendid original gilt-tooled binding with an highly ornate circular fan-like motif within a rectangular frame, with seal attached and one side intact within leather covered metal case gilt-tooled in same design, witnessed by Michael Angeli Molinetti and other officials of Padua University 8 April 1698
