A collection of Russian photographs, many of St. Petersburg and environs; photographs of Grand Duke Constantine Constantinovich, his wife, Elizabeth and two of their children, Prince George of Russia and Princess Vera of Russia, before, during and immediately after the Great War; a letter, from Sweden, dated 1919, from Grand Duchess Constantine (signed Elizabeth), to Mr S. Denison, former tutor in Russia to her son, urging him to find a suitable school in England for Prince George; a framed photograph of the Grand Duchess; photograph albums; and a composition bead necklace or rosary. Princess Elizabeth of Saxe Altenburg, 1865-1927, who remained a Lutheran all her life, married Grand Duke Constantine Constantinovich and they had nine children, who were brought up in the Orthodox faith. The Grand Duke, who was extremely cultured, is perhaps best known for his translations of Shakespeare's works into Russian, considered by many to be better than Pasternak's. (It is not immediately obvious why the Grand Duchess was in Sweden at the close of the First World War for there is no record of a relative marrying into the Swedish Crown.)
