A Collection of Foreign Swords tc. An officer's sword of the Austrian Navy, with good 28in. plain slightly curved plated blade, cast gilt-brass guard incised with foliate decoration and the Imperial Eagle, wire-bound fishskin grip and gold lace sword-knot with massive tassel, the head embroidered with FJI cypher and the Eagle, in black leather scabbard with cast gilt-brass mounts, the locket also bearing the Imperial Cypher (gilt of scabbard-mounts rubbed); an officer's sword of the Spanish Navy, 29in. straight pipe-backed blade, bearing etched decoration, cast brass guard (originally gilt) with hinged flaps, Monster's head pommel and wire-bound bone grip, in black leather scabbard with gilt-brass mounts (scabbard split); a US Navy officer's sword with straight fullered 27in. blade with etched decoration and name George De Witt (blade broken and welded), regulation hilt with cast gilt-brass guard incised with oak-leaf decoration and initials USN , wire-bound rayskin grip, pommel bearing Eagle and thirteen stars, in black leather scabbard with gilt-brass mounts (leather part of scabbard defective, gilt somewhat rubbed); a Cavalry sword with plain 32in. slightly curved pipe-backed blade and brass hilt grip, gold lace knot with woven tassel, and steel scabbard with brass bands for suspension rings; and a British Drum Major's mace, 56in. long overall, with plated ferrule, polished cane shaft trimmed with coloured cord, and plain white metal head surmounted by brass Royal Crest (crest deformed).
