A collection of early wood-cut and engraved plates of Ottoman Sultans and important Oriental figures, most from early German and French travel books [most France or Germany, sixteenth to eighteenth centuries] a group of 32 prints, 13 of these loose and 19 pasted to leaves in a bound album, some trimmed at edges on or within original plate margins, overall very clean and crisp condition, various sizes, smallest 150 by 110 mm., largest 300 by 200 mm.; together with 3 later prints A wonderful collection of portraits including: Suleyman I (by Hierommus Hopfer, probably c. 1550), Meemet Cicala (by Giacomo Franco probably 1596), The Turkish Sultan and A Wealthy Turkish Woman with her Children (likely from the Vitae Icones Sultanuti Turciocorum, 1597), Le Grand Cam (c. 1685) and Le Roy Hossen (1718) among others.
