A collection of Czechoslovakian garment sections to include: an insert for a sleeve of a womanÆs blouse from Cataj, Slovakia, (EE-14). Bought from Irena Kipsova of Cataj, who made it in the 1940s; a strip from a womanÆs apron from CiÏmany, Slovakia, mid 19th century linen band of pulled work with eight-pointed stars in satin stitch, dark and bright red, yellow and green, (EE-15). See photos of a house covered with white painted motifs. This was the village museum, and I bought this embroidery there, 1988; a sleeve from a womanÆs white cotton blouse from Slovenske Grob, Slovakia, embroidered with tulips and stylized flowers in metal thread with mauve and black tambouring and yellow floss silk, (EE-17). Gift from Dr Bumbalova, Ethnographic Museum, Martin 1988; a white cotton sleeve from womanÆs blouse from Detva, Slovakia, with orange and yellow tambouring and yellow and white bobbin lace, (EE-18). See photo woman making these. Bought Ethnographic Museum, Martin 1988. (I paid far too much for these pieces, but it was a way of repaying Dr. Bumbalova for her hospitality); a white cotton sleeve from a womanÆs blouse from Piestany, orange cotton broderie anglaise, with floral motifs and needle weaving (EE-19). Bought Ethnographic Museum, Martin 1988; cuffs of menÆs bridal shirts from Trnava, Slovakia, (EE-20/21). æThese sleeves are immensely wide and IÆm not sure whether the yellow one is half a cuff, or the orange one is the two joined together, rather than just one cuff.Æ Bought Ethnographic Museum, Martin 1988; pieces from a manÆs shirt from Vlcnov (Slovacko), Moravia, (EE-22). æDrashke Pavelkova, the lady who sent my costume EE-11, managed to get a visa for England, and appeared on my doorstop (on Albion Isle, as she called it), with two immense sausages and a bag of stale bread. She would eat nothing else for the time she stayed. IÆm afraid she became known in the village as æthe dreaded DrashkeÆ.Æ Gift from Drashke 1989; menÆs shirt bands from Uherske Hradiste, Moravia, in Slav knotstitch, (EE-23). Gift from Drashke 1989; and a womanÆs waistcoat from Moravia, (EE-24). Gift from Drashke 1989. See Embroidered Textiles, pp. 103, 152, 190, 232 ú200-250
