Eberhard of the Custom House, Baltimore advising a colonel that he should accept the chance to learn provenance and read and write the German language, another note from same 1868; blank check from the Confederate States, printed and manuscript tax bills from Virginia counties, taxing slaves and other commodities, 1860’s; an interesting blank sheet of high quality letter paper with the watermark CSA; 1863 Virginia tax receipts for funds to benefit soldier’s families; a 2 page important Western Union Telegram from Washington, January 26, 1865 to the Governor of Pennsylvania directing him as authorized by the Secretary of War to raise 50 companies of volunteer infantry under the call of 1864 to be assigned to Regiments now in the service. Service will be from one to three years as the recruit may elect; a Confederate Military Telegram from Lynchburg, 1865 concerning auctioning condemned houses; letter (handwriting faint) with transcription from Conscript Office in Richmond 1864 concerning rules and regulations, signed by Col J.C. Shields Commander, Prang printed CDV of Gen. Bragg; 1864 Enrolling office document from Richmond concerning conscription; blank Confederate States printed document concerning meat for the Army of Northern Virginia 1864; holograph purchase document for 1500 lbs. bacon 1861 for the troops at Camp Jefferson, Charlottesville, VA signed by Westenbaker, Asst. Commissioner of Subsistence, nice piece. Documents concerning a “colored boy “ in a wooden tenement in Jail Alley and the bill; nicely filled out and signed CSA requisition for stationery, paper & envelopes for the Confederate Army in Atlanta GA. Plus other items from the 1860’s in the Southern states. A very nice collection with interesting material deserving of research. Collection of Calvin P.
