A collection of approximately 20 contact sheets comprising about 357 images, and one 9 x 12in photograph of John Lennon stamped Dezo Hoffmann on the verso. All of the sheets are stamped "Copyright photo / Dezo Hoffman / 39 Wardour Street / London W1V 3HA. This collection was obtained by the consignor, from Mr. Hoffmann's son. Dezo Hoffmann was the most famous of the pop and rock photographers of the early and mid-1960s. He was with the Beatles from their days at the Cavern Club in Liverpool. These images date from as early as 1962, and continue through at least 1964. The collection includes proofs from the sessions eventually used on the cover of "Twist and Shout." There are unpublished images of the Beatles setting up to play, at press conferences, carefully staged shots intended for publicity and fan photos with many variants, the Beatles on stage at the BBC, Ringo taking out the milk at his mother's house, candids of the Beatles attempting to strangle Hoffmann, Ringo trying to be photogenic, and many other images, in hotel rooms, on the street, at the beach. Includes one contact sheet of Mic Jagger. A tremendous early photographic archive of the most famous rock photographer and the most important band of the period.
