A collection of 77 poetry books published by the Fantasy Press, 1952-1962, comprising an almost complete set of the Fantasy Poets series, 34 (of 35) volumes, New Poems, 6 issues, Autumn 1952-Winter 1953, Oxford Poetry, 7 issues, 1953-57 & 1959-60, and other contemporary poetry by various authors, including George Macbeth, Lecture to the Trainees, Donald Davie, Brides of Reason, Kingsley Amis, The Evans Country, Peter Dale, Walk from the House, Michael Fried, Other Hands, Thom Gunn, Fighting Terms, David Raikes, Poems (2 copies), The Elegies of Ovid, with line drawings by Oscar Mellor, Lucien Stryk, The Trespasser (5 copies), etc., plus John Cotton, Oscar Mellor, The Fantasy Press, A Memory, Dodman Press, 1977, and 9 other related poetry pamphlets, including 2 issues of Oxford Left, 1953, Tomorrow, nos. 1-3, June 1959-February 1960, etc., mostly original printed wrappers, stapled as issued (except 6 volumes cloth bound), generally in very good condition, slim 8vo The Fantasy Press was founded by Oscar Mellor in Oxford in 1951, and was closely associated with poets and writers connected with the university. Its scope was subsequently enlarged to include writers from Cambridge, and latterly to poets from all backgrounds. The Fantasy Poets series published many authors who later found international fame, and includes the work of Geoffrey Hill, Philip Larkin, Kingsley Amis, Adrian Mitchell and others. This is one of only three complete sets of the Fantasy Press publications formerly owned by the founder of the press, Oscar Mellor. One other set is now in the Bodleian Library, Oxford and another is in private hands in America. (86)
