Beesley, with sunken game-rib Weight 9lb. 4oz., 14 1/8in. pull, 27 1/8in. barrels, both approx. 7/8 choke, 3in. chambers, nitro reproof In a leather case The safe is defective and should be repaired before the gun is used In the 'chamberless' gun, the bore is approximately the same diameter as the chamber. The elimination of the forcing-cone reduces recoil and the use of thin-walled cartridge-cases allows for wads and shot-loads suited to the increased bore-diameter. In effect, the 'chamberless 12-gauge' is the equivalent of a normal 10-gauge. This leads to some confusion, but all breech-loading shotguns are known by the nominal gauge of their cartridge and not by the actual diameter of their bore. Thus, a 12-gauge 'chamberless' gun will chamber any 12-gauge cartridge (of suitable length), but only a thin-walled cartridge-case is likely to produce optimum ballistics
