A CASED 13-BORE FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN BY WILLIAM MILLS LONDON, CIRCA 1825 With rebrowned two-stage twist barrel and silver fore-sight, octagonal breech section changing to polygonal and engraved at the rear on the top flat with a dog and a bird in a landscape, case-hardened recessed patent breech with two gold lines and crowned gold-lined maker's stamp, platinum-lined touch-hole, engraved case-hardened grooved tang, engraved signed case-hardened lock with stepped tail, roller, rainproof pan, and pierced cock, finely figured walnut half-stock, chequered grip, finely engraved iron mounts, trigger-plate with pineapple finial, silver escutcheon engraved with owner's initials J.A., silver fore-end cap and barrel-bolt escutcheons, brass-mounted ramrod, and faint traces of original finish: in lined and fitted mahogany case with some accessories, the lid with Joseph Manton trade label for circa 1805-1810, and with flush-fitting carrying handle 32 1/8in. barrel
