A CARVED WOOD 'BUDDHIST LION' GROUP LATE MING/EARLY QING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY The light coloured wood is carved as a Buddhist lion seated on its haunches, with its mouth agape exposing sharp fangs and tongue, and the inset eyes bulging under feathered eyebrows. The front paws hold a brocade ball, and its young are clambering over its back beside its large bushy tail. 4 1/8 in. (10.5 cm.) wide.
