A BRITISH OFFICER'S SWORD OF 1786 PATTERN
LATE 18TH CENTURY
A BRITISH OFFICER'S SWORD OF 1786 PATTERN LATE 18TH CENTURY With tapering double-edged blade with faint 'ANDRIA' and 'FARARA' inscription respectively on each side at the forte, cast and chased brass hilt with symmetrical shell-guards and urn-shaped pommel, each element decorated in relief with foliage, and wire-bound grip; together with AN INFANTRY HANGER, 18TH CENTURY, with slightly curved fullered single-edged blade double-edged at the point and incised on each side with a running wolf mark, iron hilt comprising large symmetrical side-rings each filled with a pierced plate, thumb-ring, short rear-quillon, rounded bars, globular pommel incised with the issue number 'L.66', and cast swelling brass grip incised with lines (some corrosion marking to iron parts, cutting edge of blade chipped) Respectively 32½in. (82.5cm.) and 27in. (68.5cm.) blades (2)
