A Boer War and Great War Group of 4 awarded to Captain Walter William Sharpe, MID, Army Service Corps, late 62nd (Middlesex) Company, 11th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, comprising: Queen’s South Africa Medal, 1899-1902, 3rd type reverse, 2 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State (4284 Pte. W. W. Sharpe,. 62nd Coy Imp: Yeo.), 1914-15 Star (Lieut. W. W. Sharpe A.S.C.), British War & Victory Medals, 1914-1919, the latter with bronze MiD spray of oak leaves (Capt. W. W. Sharpe); medals officially impressed, group court mounted on board for display. Medals lightly polished and cleaned, a few light marks, otherwise nearly extremely fine. (4) MID LG 10.07.1919 Captain Walter William Sharpe was born in King William’s Town, near Cape Town, South Africa, on the 4th of May, 1877, and enlisted for service with the 62nd (Middlesex) Company, 11th Imperial Yeomanry at London on the 16th of February 1900, having previously worked as an Engineer. He fought during the Second Boer War, during which time he was accidentally wounded during service and later appears to have been discharged in September 1900. Having subsequently moved to Britain, he was working as Manager of Argyle Motor Works at the outbreak of WWI, and given this trade he was called up to serve with the Army Service Corps, initially as Second Lieutenant, and later being promoted to Captain on the 18th of July 1916. He was discharged in April 1919, and married one Olive Sharpe, and listed her as his next of kin with a permanent address at 18 Frederick Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham. Sold with copy attestation papers for the Second Boer War and WWI, and copy MIC
