A 5in GAUGE EXHIBITION MODEL OF S.E. & C.R. 4-4-0 LOCOMOTIVE NO. 516, this Class "E" model was built by J.E. Kelly of Chatham and was winner of The Model Engineer Exhibition "Championship Cup" in 1969, the superheated copper boiler is complete with Ramsbottom safety valves, injector valves, blower and brake valves, whistle and regulator valves. The chassis contains twin inside cylinders with valve chests over with the spindles linked to suspended connecting rods via a rocking weigh shaft. The slotted valve links are controlled by a steam/hydraulic engine controlled in the cab via an external hollow swivelling reach rod controlling both steam and hydraulic valves and containing an internal slide rod controlling the steam slide valve. The cylinder is fitted with a lubricator and the valve actuating lever is complete with a cab indicator dial. Further chassis fittings include displacement lubricators, sanding boxes, steam cylinder lubricating pump, axle box oilers, grained cab interior, two-part footplate doors and twin injectors. The front bogey wheels have leaf springs as do the rear drivers and the front drivers are fitted with coil springs. Tender fittings include twin scale size water valves, brake, door latches, footplate flap, leaf sprung axles with well detailed axle boxes, vacuum pipe, firing iron and lamp brackets and water filler with hand feed pump. Finely finished in South East & Chatham Railway green and maroon with pale green and straw lining, 14½in (37cm) high, 59¾in (152cm) long
