A 19th century Ottoman Turkish yataghan sword. Recurved blade 56cm long, with silver inlay emblem, etched script and engraved decoration. Blade with corrosion to the end half and some loss to the cutting edge. Copper alloy, glass and coral decorated hilt fittings, with ivory grip plates and large extended 'ears' characteristic of the weapon type. The ivory appears to be walrus. Housed in a scabbard of leather over wood, with brass fittings. Overall length in scabbard 77cm. This item contains ivory and is therefore subject to CITES regulations.
