Beschreibung:

This grand example of late 16th century style, most likely German sword, steel chiseling is of extravagant proportions. Hilt is probably Victorian era. The swept hilt is chiseled with scenes of knight on horseback in combat. Ricasso chiseled with knight on horseback with flag and laurels. Elaborate pommel chiseled with battle scenes, Teutonic eagle and shield and a portrait bust with laurel wreath. The D guard chiseled with lion face, sword, and mace, as well as a warrior holding a cup. One branch chiseled with a castle and shield and the reverse with a lion rampant within a shield. The hilt made in several pieces and then pinned together. The grip with elaborate decorative steel wire and two superbly executed Turk's heads. The 32" broadsword style blade is 1-1/2" at it's widest point with two fullers on each side marked "Peter Munsten Me Fecit" for "Made by Peter Munsten" with the Solingen running wolf and three sunken cartouches on each side featuring a man in armor holding a polearm. CONDITION: Hilt is good throughout showing very little wear. One of the counter branches on the left side is missing. Grip is very good with only one strand of wire slightly proud. Blade would rate excellent except for some pitting and rust beginning 13" from the spatulate point. Remnants of an old museum inventory in fragmentary white paint on left side of ricasso. One of the most attractive and decorated chiseled hilt swords to be sold in many, many years. DMG Item Dimensions: Length: 42 - 1/2". Name Value Blade Length 32" Overall Length 42 - 1/2" Paperwork
