Beschreibung:

(8vo) black cloth, spine lettered in gilt, Hemingway's facsimile signature stamped in gilt on top board, pictorial dust jacket. First American Edition. Signed and inscribed by Ernest Hemingway to Teo and Nena Davis at the top of the front free endpaper: "To Teo and Nena with love Ernest." Teo Davis was an American writer, perhaps best known for having been the son of wealthy American expatriates in Spain who lavishly entertained celebrities and the literati, including Ernest Hemingway in a famous 1959 visit when the celebrated author struggled for sanity and survival as he was about to turn 60 and headed toward self-destruction. Hemingway was in Spain writing a series of articles for LIFE magazine about that summer's bullfighting duel between the world’s two leading matadors at the time. Over that summer, eight-year-old Teo befriended Hemingway while he was staying at his home. The story of their friendship, and of Davis' own self-destruction was later told in the book, Looking for Hemingway; Spain, The Bullfights and a Final Rite of Passage. Nena was Teo's younger sister. A wonderful inscribed association copy. First issue jacket, with yellow spine. Hanneman A23.A.
