Noord-Holland]. Huët, A. "Voorloopig Ontwerp eener Open Verbinding van Amsterdam met de Noordzee. Bijlage XVII. De Noordzee voor Amsterdam. 1862-1889". N.pl. (Amst.), n.publ., ±1862-1889, collection containing 30 (fold.) manuscript numbered (manuscript) maps, plans, profiles and diagrams mainly depicting/ concerning the construction of the North Sea Canal (Noordzeekanaal), some engr./ lithogr. material and otherwise pen and (colour) ink (and watercolour), various (large) sizes, some w. Huët's blindstamp, contemp. hcl. w. giltlettered mor. title-piece, large folio. - Some occas. sl. foxing/ soiling and closed marginal tears; a few maps w. tear on fold. = Personal and possibly unique collection of civil mechanical engineer Adrien Huët (1836-1899), who designed an open junction between Amsterdam and the North Sea, without locks. His plans however were refuted and a connection with locks was built between 1865 and 1876. This collection, with on upper pastedown the manuscript dedication "Aan het Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs, van A. Huët", contains some printed maps/ plans with designs drawn in, and for the most part manuscript designs and diagrams, which in their turn are partly the manuscript precursors of maps published later on in print. In those cases manuscript annotations in lower corner explain its origins. All designs are by A. Huët but many are drawn by H. van Bruggen (those sheets w. "geteekend[/ get.] door H. van Bruggen"). Most concern the North Sea Canal (and incl. 5x the related matter of the (partial) poldering of the Zuiderzee), two depict a new waterway in Rotterdam/ Hoek van Holland and three show plans for a new railway station situated in the Amsterdam IJ harbour area. Contents: 1. "Nieuwe Waterweg van Rotterdam naar Zee" (pen and ink, 36x93 cm., publ. in De Nieuwe Waterweg van Rotterdam naar zee, Rott., 1872); 2. "Hoek van Holland. Algemeen Plan. Lengte Profil. Dwarsprofil" (pen and ink and watercolour, 71x133 cm., "Medegedeeld in de Vergadering van het Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs van 11 April 1871"); 3. "Holland op zijn Smalst. Algemeen Plan. Lengte Profil. Dwarsprofil" (pen and ink and watercolour, 71x118 cm., "Medegedeeld (...) 12 September 1871"). 3a. "Ontwerp eener Nieuwe Verbinding van Neêrlands Hoofdstad met de Noordzee" (engr. map by Van Baarsel & Tuyn, w. manuscript additions in pen and (red) ink and watercolour by Huët, 38x105 cm., signed, titled and "Amsterdam 1863" in pen and red ink by Huët); 4. (Map of Noord-Holland showing i.a. water depths around the province and in the projected canal) (pen and ink and watercolour, 74x53,5 cm., "(...) 9 September 1862 (...) 12 Juny 1884"); 5-11. (6 sheets showing water depths and profiles, to accompany the preceding map) (all drawn by Huët in 1862, pen and (col.) ink and some watercolour, various sizes, presented at meetings in 1862 and 1884); 12. "Nieuwe Kaart van het Koningrijk der Nederlanden" (lithogr. map w. "Ontwerp voor een Nieuwe Verbinding van Amsterdam met de Noordzee" in pen and ink and watercolour by Huët, 72x61 cm., Amst., J.C. Loman Jr., ±1850, the design 1862); 13. "De Noord Zee voor Amsterdam. Ontwerp eener Vrije Verbinding van Nederlands Hoofdstad met de Noord-Zee door A.
