Collection of 182 etchings and engravings, incl. 11 COMPLETE SERIES and quite some 1st or early states, bound together in 18th cent. hcalf, obl. 4to. - Waterstained in upper quarter to half of lvs. throughout, occas. w. mouldy spots (some images only sl./ vaguely affected and up to 30 hardly or not at all); the first approx. 30 lvs. also waterstained in right (mainly blank) margin; the first print w. false fold; print w. ms. numb. 4 w. small hole in image; otherwise some sl. occas. yellowing/ foxing; the lvs. numbered by hand in pen and brown ink, including two unnumbered plates and the numbering skipping no. 87 but apparently no leaf removed; three (crossed-out) 19th cent. owner's entries in pen and brown ink on upper pastedown/ first free endpaper ("James Hawkins Given by Mrs. Baugh[?] - 1831", "Miss A. Hawkins" and "Frank Gunn Bristol 1868"). Binding rubbed along extremities; foot of spine chipped. = Remarkable, large collection of landscapes by three important artists from the first half of the 17th century. The album contains 55 prints by M. Merian, 106 by J. van de Velde II and 20 (publ.) by C.J. Visscher, all showing landscapes with castles/ ruins or with town/ village views. The prints that are from the same series not necessarily bound together (or in Hollstein order). The MERIAN prints from [Hollstein series titles and numbers, and states for complete series between brackets]: Landscapes in Germany and Switzerland (8 of 20; H. between 344-363); Landscapes in the Alsace (...) (COMPLETE SERIES of 6; H. 364-369, all 3rd state of 4); Landscapes in the vicinity of Stuttgart and Mainz (3 of 4; H. 371-373, of 371 and 372 two impressions present); Landscapes in the vicinity of Heidelberg (5 of 6; H. 374-378); Landscapes in the vicinity of Nuremberg (COMPLETE SERIES of 6; H. 380-385, all 1st state of 2, before text); Landscapes in France (COMPLETE SERIES of 7 (H. 386-392, all 2nd state of 3); Night scenes after Elsheimer (...) (6 of 8; H. between 413-421); Hunting scenes (COMPLETE SERIES of 6; H. 507-512, all 2nd state of 4); 3 prints remain to be identified. (title and 14 plates of in total 16; H. 216-231); Landscapes (COMPLETE SERIES of 60 (plus 2 duplicates), issued in 5 sets of 12; H. 232-243, all 2nd state of 3 (1x of 4)/ H. 244-255, 1st or 2nd state of 2 or 3/ H. 256-267, all 1st state of 2 (the title print 2nd state of 4)/ H. 268-279, 1st or 2nd state of 3 (H. 271 3rd state of 4); H. 280-291, 1st (title)/ 2nd state of 3) and Landscapes (COMPLETE SERIES of 6; H. 300-305, only states). The prints (publ.) by C.J. VISSCHER: Landscapes (Amaenores aliquot regiunculae) (12 of 14 (incl. title); H. 328-329 and 331-340) and a numbered series of 8 landscapes with farms/ castles/ city views, "C.I.
