Won by Jack Westland 3 & 2 over Al Mengert; making him the oldest to do so, winning at the age of 47. Nearly twenty years earlier he was runner-up in the same event (held in Chicago) to the 38 year old Francis Ouimet (the previous record holder). Westland (1904-1982), a U.S. Representative from Washington, served during WWII in the Pacific as a commander in the Navy; was elected to Congress during the 1950’s, was friends with many high ranking officials and celebrities and later moved to Pebble Beach. Lot Amendments Condition: Light edge wear and rubbing, slight fading to spine and top edges; still a nice clean copy, near fine. Item number: 186599
