The 1959 Aston Martin DBR1 was the first British car to win the World Sport Car championship in the first 30 years of that title's existence. The three-liter DBR1 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959 as well. The factory also built two DBR2 models with 3.7-liter engines for unlimited sports car racing when the Championship was limited to 3 liters. These won major events in both the U.S. and the U.K against current Ferrari and Maserati opposition. This sale lot is a DBR2 recreation made by Errol Tempero's shop in New Zealand, now a third generation coachbuilder established in 1946. The shapely body is done in aluminum with proper Aston green paint. Details such as the yellow nose ring are present and the interior comes with the period houndstooth upholstery, an upholstered drive train tunnel and an authentic dash and steering wheel. Like the original, the car has right hand drive. The frame and four-wheel independent suspension are as originally designed with four-wheel disc brakes. Power is from a four-liter, six-cylinder, dual overhead cam Aston DB6 engine with Weber carburetors. This replica of a legendary Aston Martin has undergone a recent $40,000 freshening that involved making the car more user friendly. It included new Borrani 16 inch wheels with speed rated radials. A rear exhaust system was fabricated with polished stainless silencers and ceramic coated pipes to remove excess heat from the cockpit. The ignition was replaced with an MSD unit including rev limiter. The starter has been replaced with a high torque gear reduction model to assure starting under extremely cold or hot conditions. The brake system has been completely rebuilt including calipers, masters and flex lines. All wheel bearings were replaced and the carburetors received new chokes and jets for improved drivability. The chassis was aligned on a flat plate. This included changing some springs. The shifter was removed, modified and reinstalled with a marked improvement in ease of shifting. The entire front body section was removed in order to detail the engine compartment with is now to concours levels. A final detail adding to driver enjoyment is a higher windscreen and side screens allowing less wind intrusion at the speeds the car is capable of achieving. This magnificent DBR2 recreation is a turnkey proposition that will give the new owner a driving experience like that enjoyed by the likes of Stirling Moss, Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby, just to mention a few of the Aston racers of yore. The car is offer on a Montana title.
